HAMMER BAY is the stunning outcome from young Director Ben Briand’s winning entry into the MTV 180 Project late last year. Written by ex-COFA students Briand and Andrew Liversidge, it’s a story of “murder most foul in a town that is no longer what it once was…”
When a teenage girl is found dead on the rocks of Hammer Bay everyone is under suspicion. There are no secrets in a beach-side town, which becomes rife with gossip. Then a documentary team enters the fray…and the real questions begin.
Featuring an extraordinary cast including veteran Australian actor Jacki Weaver, as well as Guy Edmonds, newcomers Sam Smith, Penny McNamee and Ben’s own family, each performance is unscripted and totally captivating.
Briand has created a beautiful piece of television that I think stands out from the mediocre trash that tends to fill our television screens. The dark visual imagery and a plot draws you right inside a town and all its sinister secrets. You won’t be able to wait to find out who did it.
