Summer Rain

Antonio Banderas’, ‘Summer Rain’ treads new ground since his directing debut of ‘Crazy in Alabama’, the fluffy romantic comedy of 1999. Set in Southern Spain of the 1970s the heavily stylised story runs within the allegorical parallels of Dante’s ‘Divine Comedy’, Antonio Soler’s prize-winning novel and Banderas’ autobiography. Seems like this baby is just as dense as tightly-packed Chorizo sausage doesn’t it? Surprisingly, ‘Summer Rain’ is a beautifully intense rites of passage film tying in a myriad of teenage tribulations of discovering sex, family secrets and relieving the relentless itch to travel the ‘English Road’ in the name of opportunity.**Summer Rain is screening as part of the 10th Annual Spanish Film Festival. Gather your amigos, stuff your face with churros, wash them down with Sangria and then watch some Spanish cinema cradling your aching bellies. Ole!!
